About the project
We’re making crucial investments to improve accessibility, circulation, and appearance at Broadway Junction, Brooklyn's third largest subway station serving the
lines. We’ll complete critical state of good repair work, including improving, reinforcing, and refinishing platforms and passageways.ADA accessibility at Broadway Junction will be transformative for the public realm around the station. This project complements other critical infrastructure investments occurring simultaneously in the area, including:
- Preparation for bus electrification at Herkimer bus lot
- Lead abatement and overcoating of elevated rail structures
- City of New York public realm improvements
Project benefits
- Accessibility improvements will achieve a stair-free path of travel and expand travel path options for all customers.
- Seven new elevators and a new elevator-equipped passageway connecting the platforms to the platforms will be constructed.
- A new accessible entrance to the platform will be built on the east side of Van Sinderen Avenue.
- State of good repair work will address aging infrastructure.
- We'll replace two escalators connecting the mezzanine to trains, build new ADA compliant staircases, and complete station platform repairs.
- Two staircases serving the platform will be widened and rehabilitated.
- A new public bathroom will be built at Callahan Kelly playground.
