First Open House Will Take Place on March 27 in Ridgewood, Queens

IBX Will Provide 900,000 Residents With 14 Miles of New Service

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced it will host a series of Open Houses on the Interborough Express (IBX) throughout the Spring. The first Open House will take place on Thursday, March 27, at Queens Public Library in Ridgewood, Queens from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Members of the public are encouraged to attend to learn more about the project.

The Open House will feature a short presentation followed by an exhibition of informational posters explaining key elements of the project. Agency representatives will also be on hand to answer questions and discuss comments and concerns.

“The Interborough Express will give Brooklyn and Queens the fast, reliable, frequent public transit connection they deserve,” said MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer. “This project will transform mobility in New York’s two largest boroughs and we can't wait to share our ideas with the New Yorkers who will benefit from it.”

The MTA will host additional Open Houses on Thursday, April 3, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at South Shore High School in Canarsie, Brooklyn, Tuesday, April 22 at Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park, Brooklyn from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and in Jackson Heights, Queens on Thursday, May 8 at Renaissance Charter School from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. This continues the MTA’s extensive outreach campaign, adding to the more than 35 project meetings already held with elected officials, stakeholders and the public. The MTA has previously held three virtual and five in-person open house meetings.

About the Interborough Express
The IBX will connect communities in Brooklyn and Queens to 17 subway lines, 51 current bus routes, the Long Island Rail Road at the East New York Station, as well as significantly reduce travel times within and between the two boroughs. 115,000 riders are expected to use the line each weekday. In October, the MTA released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit consultant bids to begin the preliminary engineering phase of the IBX, which is expected to take approximately two years. Construction of this project is dependent on full approval and funding of the MTA's proposed 2025 – 2029 Capital Plan
