MTA Announces Presidents’ Day Holiday Service

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced details on service for the Presidents’ Day holiday.

Several projects will be undergoing work over the holiday weekend, between Friday, Feb. 14 and Tuesday, Feb. 18, which will impact service across the transit system. Work taking place on the subway includes Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) upgrades, as well as state of good repair work such as switch and track maintenance.

New York City Subway

On Presidents’ Day, Monday, Feb. 17, the New York City Subway will operate on a Saturday schedule with some planned service changes due to scheduled maintenance and repair work. The Staten Island Railway will operate on a Saturday schedule.

  • Southbound  trains will operate local from 96 St to 72 St.
  •  trains will only operate between Bowling Green and Woodlawn. There will be no  train service in Brooklyn.  train service will operate to New Lots Ave all weekend.
  •  train service will only operate between Queensboro Plaza and Flushing–Main St. There will be no  train service between 34 St–Hudson Yards and Queensboro Plaza.
    •  trains will operate normal weekend service.  train service will operate 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday and 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to provide additional alternative service for  train riders to and from Manhattan. 
    • Two shuttle bus routes will replace  service between 34 St–Hudson Yards and Times Sq–42 St and between Vernon–Jackson Ave and Queensboro Plaza.
  •  train service will only operate between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Court Sq. Shuttle buses operate between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Jay St-MetroTech.
  • Southbound  train service will operate express from Jay St-MetroTech to Kings Hwy.
  • Southbound  night service will operate express from Atlantic Ave–Barclays Ctr to 59 St.
    • Southbound  train service will operate local from Atlantic Av–Barclays Ctr to 36 St.
  •  train service will only operate between Bay 50 St and 205 St. Shuttle buses operate between Bay 50 St and Stillwell Ave.
  •  train service will only operate between Hewes St and Jamaica Center.  train service will only operate between Metropolitan Ave and Myrtle Ave. Shuttle buses will connect  train riders at Hewes St to the Delancey-Essex St  station in Manhattan operating via the Williamsburg Bridge.

New York City Buses

On Presidents’ Day, Monday, Feb. 17, New York City Buses will run on a Saturday schedule.

QM20 will operate, but on a special schedule. It normally does not run on Saturdays. QM2 and QM5 will have additional service.

Staten Island buses will run on a reduced weekday schedule. Special schedules will be in effect for SIM buses; SIM4x and SIM8x will not run. S89 Ltd, S90 Ltd, and S93 Ltd will run; all other limited-stop services will not run.

Long Island Rail Road

On President’s Day, Monday, Feb. 17, the Long Island Rail Road will operate on a weekend schedule.

Metro-North Railroad

On President’s Day, Monday, Feb. 17, the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines will operate on a Saturday schedule.

The Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines will operate on a Weekend/Holiday schedule, with three extra trains on the Port Jervis Line.

For travel eastbound toward Manhattan, extra trains will depart Port Jervis at 6:18 a.m. and 4:05 p.m., making all stops to Suffern, then express to Secaucus Junction, arriving in Hoboken at 8:30 a.m. and 6:24 p.m., and the connecting trains arriving at Penn Station at 8:39 a.m. and 6:33 p.m.

For westbound travel toward Port Jervis, an extra train will depart Hoboken at 5:19 p.m., with a connecting train from Penn Station New York at 5:14 p.m., stopping at Secaucus Junction, then express to Suffern and all stops to Port Jervis, arriving at 7:35 p.m.

TrainTime app - The MTA’s TrainTime app is the one-stop app for commuter rail customers in the region on both Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad, showing all train schedules for 30 days in the future. 

mta.info – The “Service Status” box at mta.info is always the definitive source for the latest status for each line.

MTA Weekender – Customers can sign up for the “MTA Weekender,” a weekly digest of major weekend service changes throughout the transit system.

X – X users can follow @MTA, @NYCTSubway, and @NYCTBus for service updates and customer service support.    

WhatsApp – Customers can chat with NYC Transit via WhatsApp. Riders can receive customer service support in their native language through the help of Google Translate.
