Subway and rail service changes: Presidents Day Weekend 2025

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this holiday weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Valentine's Day! If you're searching for a good date activity this weekend, you can't go wrong with a visit to the New York Transit Museum, if your sweetie is the type of person who finds vintage subway cars terribly romantic. (Who isn't?) And as always, we're glad you choo-choo-choose us to get around on your weekends.

Because it's also a holiday weekend, we have some service changes on Monday, Presidents Day:

  • The subway and most buses will run on a Saturday schedule. Many weekend service changes will continue through Monday.
    • Staten Island buses will run on a reduced weekday schedule. Some Queens and Staten Island express buses will run on special holiday schedules.
  • The LIRR will run on a weekend schedule.
  • Metro-North will run on a Saturday schedule on the Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven lines and a weekend schedule on the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines, with added trains on the Port Jervis Line.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running in Brooklyn.
  •  trains aren't running between Queensboro Plaza and 34 St-Hudson Yards.
  •  trains aren't stopping at Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • Brooklyn-bound ​ trains are running on the ​ from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to 5 Av/53 St.
  •  trains aren't running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Hewes St and Broad St.
  •  trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running in Brooklyn from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday because of station improvement work.

  • For service between Borough Hall and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take  trains.
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the , which is running to/from New Lots Av all weekend, including overnight.
    • Transfer between  and  trains at Fulton St.
  •  trains are running between Woodlawn and Bowling Green.

 trains, Manhattan and Queens

 trains aren't running between Queensboro Plaza and 34 St-Hudson Yards from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Tuesday because of drainage work.

  • For service between Queens and Manhattan, take  trains.
    • Transfer at 74 St-Broadway/Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av  or Queensboro Plaza .
    • Special weekend  service is running between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 34 St-Herald Sq every 20 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Monday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
  • For service to/from 34 St-Hudson Yards, take the M34-SBS bus.
  • Free shuttle buses are also running along two routes:
    • Q93, making all  stops between Queensboro Plaza and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av.
    • Q92, overnight only between Times Sq-42 St and 34 St-Hudson Yards.
  •  42 St Shuttle trains are running all weekend, including overnight.
  •  trains are running between Flushing-Main St and Queensboro Plaza, every 8 minutes during the day and evening.
    • Flushing-bound  trains aren't stopping from 74 St-Broadway to Junction Blvd from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement. For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Queensboro Plaza-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't stopping at Coney Island-Stillwell Av from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from this station, take  trains. Or, take free shuttle buses, which are running between Bay 50 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  trains are running between Norwood-205 St and Bay 50 St.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

Brooklyn-bound  trains are running on the  from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to 5 Av/53 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to bypassed stations, and service from 21 St-Queensbridge and Roosevelt Island, take a Jamaica-bound .
  • For service from Lexington Av/63 St, take the .
  • For service from 57 St, use nearby 57 St-7 Av .

 trains, Brooklyn

From 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday:

  •  trains aren't running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av.
    •  trains are running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
  • Coney Island-bound  trains are running express from Jay St-MetroTech to Kings Hwy.

This is because of signal modernization work.

  • For service between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn, take free shuttle buses, which are running between these stations making all  stops and to/from Jay St-MetroTech .
    • When exiting the subway at Bedford-Nostrand Avs, Hoyt-Schermerhorn, or Jay St-MetroTech, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service between Bergen St and Church Av, take the .
    • Connect between free shuttle buses and  trains at Jay St-MetroTech.
  • For local service between Jay St-MetroTech and Kings Hwy, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday:

  • trains aren't running between Hewes St and Broad St in either direction. 
    • ​ trains are running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Hewes St.
  •  trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St in either direction.
    • ​ trains are running between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av.

This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service between Myrtle Av and Hewes St, take the ​.
  • For service between Hewes St and Delancey St-Essex St, take free B106 shuttle buses, which are running between these stations and stopping at Marcy Av.
    • When exiting the subway at Hewes St or Delancey St-Essex St, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, take  trains.
  • For service in Lower Manhattan, take  trains.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at Montrose Av from 11:45 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday because of station work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Canarsie-bound train, or use nearby Grand St or Morgan Av stations.

Canarsie-bound  trains aren't stopping at Montrose Av from 11:45 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday because of station work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Manhattan-bound train, or use nearby Morgan Av or Grand St stations.

 trains, Brooklyn

Bay Ridge-bound  and Coney Island-bound  local trains are running express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 59 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday because of track replacement.

  • For local service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St, take the , which is running local between these stations all weekend.
  • For local service between 36 St and 59 St, take a Manhattan-bound train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Far Rockaway and Long Beach branches

Trains aren't stopping at Locust Manor, Laurelton, or Rosedale from 11:15 p.m. Friday to 5:15 a.m. Monday because of accessibility work.

  • For service to/from these stations, take buses, which are running hourly between Jamaica, Locust Manor, Laurelton, Rosedale, and Valley Stream.
