The New York/New Jersey region is hosting eight World Cup matches between June 13 and July 19, 2026, including the final match on July 19. Official fan events will take place at various locations throughout New York and New Jersey. If you’re visiting for the tournament, the MTA will help you get to where you need to go.
The MTA provides subway, bus, Access-A-Ride, Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road services spanning across New York City, Long Island, and parts of upstate New York and Connecticut. You can use our transportation system to connect to NJ Transit’s trains and buses to get to the matches at in New Jersey, as well as local airports, hotels, and tourist attractions.
Getting to New York New Jersey Stadium
World Cup matches will take place at New York New Jersey Stadium in New Jersey’s Meadowlands, about nine miles from Midtown Manhattan.
There will be dedicated NJ Transit rail service and a stadium shuttle to transport spectators to and from the stadium. You can take the subway, bus, or Long Island Rail Road to and from Penn Station, where shuttle service will operate.
There will also be bus service from several locations in Midtown:
- Midtown East near Grand Central Terminal
- Midtown West near Port Authority Bus Terminal
- Midtown North near Columbus Circle
You can take the subway and bus to all locations, and LIRR or Metro-North to Grand Central Terminal for the Midtown East busing. Visit the New York New Jersey Host Committee's website for more details.
Getting to fan events
There will be official fan events throughout the region for the duration of the World Cup. These include:

Service on World Cup match days
There will be larger crowds than normal in and around New York City, including at some transit hubs, during the World Cup. Here's what to expect on match days.
Subway
Some subway lines will have increased service on match days and for major events during the World Cup:
- There will be extra service available on the 1, C, and F local trains before and after matches.
- C trains will run more frequently on match days between 10 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.
- There will be extra 7 train service from June 11 to June 27 to accommodate increased ridership to the NYNJ World Cup 26 Queens Group Stage HQ.

Bus
Depending on the day of week and time of matches, you may experience delays, reroutes, detours, and relocated stops on the following bus routes:

M5, M7, M10, M11, M15, M20, M22, M34, M42, M50, M104, Q32
Express bus routes:

Long Island Rail Road
Penn Station will be open with regular service for Long Island Rail Road customers. However, riders may experience large crowds in and around Penn Station prior to kickoff. LIRR customers may consider traveling through Grand Central Madison and Atlantic Terminal instead for service. Check the TrainTime app for real-time service information.
Metro-North Railroad
Some Pascack Valley and Port Jervis trains will not stop at Secaucus Junction on match days, and connecting service to/from Penn Station will be affected during matches. Visit NJTransit's website for schedules and more details.
Access-A-Ride
Access-A-Ride trips may take longer on match days, especially for travel in or around Midtown Manhattan. Please allow extra time for appointments and other time-sensitive trips.
Temporary street changes on match days will take effect six hours before each match and remain in place up to three hours after it ends. Access will be limited to Official NYNJ Stadium Shuttles, MTA local buses, dedicated AAR vehicles, official World Cup vehicles, and emergency vehicles. AAR trips within temporary limited-access streets (designated sections of 5th and 6th Avs, 34th St, and 42nd St) will be served by dedicated AAR vehicles only during the restrictions.
There will be no pick up or drop off on 32nd and 33rd Sts between 6th Av and 8th Av. Trips booked within those zones will be moved to the closest safe location.
How to pay MTA fares
Regular subway and bus fares are $3. Tap and ride is the easiest, most flexible way to pay your fare. You don't have to sign up or download an app; simply use your contactless credit or debit card, smartphone, wearable device, or OMNY Card.
Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad fares vary based on what stations you're traveling between and when you're traveling. The TrainTime app is the easiest way to buy your tickets.
Airport and regional transportation
The MTA offers convenient, accessible travel options via the subway, bus, and train for getting to and from the region’s airports.

Getting around during the World Cup tournament
If you regularly use the subway, bus, Long Island Rail Road, or Metro-North to get around the city, you should expect changes to service for the duration of the World Cup, particularly on match days.
It’s also very likely that your normal modes of transit will be more crowded than normal, as thousands of spectators are expected in the region for the matches. We will provide more information on travel alternatives and other service changes as it becomes available.
