Introducing Select Bus Service

What is Select Bus Service, and how does it change and improve my ride?

Select Bus Service introduces innovative changes to the way buses operate:

  • You pay BEFORE boarding
  • You board via the front and back doors
  • Dedicated bus lanes between Sedgwick Avenue and Southern Boulevard between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. speed service between stops
  • "Traffic Signal Priority" gives special treatment to buses at traffic-light intersections
These elements combined can produce as much as a 20% increase in rush-hour service for Bx12 customers.

Bus stop signs and shelters clearly mark Select Bus Service stops.

You pay your fare at the stop at either the MetroCard Fare Collector, or the Coin Fare Collector machine BEFORE boarding.

You must board at the stop where you paid your fare within one hour.

Select Bus Service Hours of Operation Are:

Monday to Friday
5:15 a.m. - 9:30 p.m., westbound
6 a.m. -10:50 p.m., eastbound

Saturdays and Sundays
6 a.m. - 10 p.m., westbound
7 a.m. - 11 p.m., eastbound

Most stops are the same as the BX12 limited, but some stops have changed. See the Bus Stops section for the location of bus stops. The BX12 local bus is not affected by the new BX12 Select Bus Service. You can transfer free between a BX12 select bus and the BX12 local.
