Title: Heavy Duty Equipment Maintainer

Responsibilities: You will maintain and repair Transit’s electromechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic track and construction equipment / machinery in the shop and in the field

Exper. & Educ.: Four years of full-time satisfactory experience at the journeyman/journeywoman (fully trained) level performing the maintenance and repair of any one of the following: Equipment typically used in construction or in the maintenance of structural facilities, such as: cranes, pneumatic compressors and hydraulic pumps, drills, pile drivers, payloaders and earthmovers, tractors, gasoline, jet and diesel engines, hi-los, forklifts and conveyors, pressure washers and water delivery systems. Graduation from a trade/technical/vocational school in the electrical/mechanical trades can substitute for one year of experience. Driver’s License Requirement: You must have either: 1. A Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York and no restrictions OR 2. A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York and a Learner's Permit for a Class B Commercial Driver License with no restrictions ***An endorsement for hazardous materials may be required within 6 months of hiring***

Responsibilities: This position will be responsible for all bus electrical and related systems. The responsibilities will include: - Providing support to the depots and CMFs in the investigation and resolution of problems involving bus electrical systems, and Electrical Engineering assistance to the maintenance department. - Performing First Article Inspections on parts and components to ensure compliance with Department of Buses specifications and standards and to qualify alternative products. - Preparing specifications, bulletins, directives, procedures, presentations, and other reports for the department. - Investigating issues with electrical components and hybrid propulsion components with focus on traction batteries, motors, generators, high voltage connectors, and control systems. - Investigating issues with multiplex system. - New technologies such as traffic signal prioritization, GPS, and cameras. - Bus fire suppression systems. - Ability to read and create electrical schematics. - Responsibility for carrying out and managing various engineering projects.

Exper. & Educ.: 1. A Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college and either one (1) year of full-time satisfactory experience in electrical engineering or a Master's degree in Electrical engineering; or 2. A combination of a Bachelor's degree in electrical technology from an accredited college and a Master's degree in electrical engineering plus one (1) year of full-time satisfactory experience in the field of electrical engineering.

Desired Skills: Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and bus components. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. PC skills including relevant engineering applications; Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

The responsibilities will include: - Providing Mechanical Engineering assistance to the department. - Creating and maintaining technical drawings using CAD software for new bus specifications, contracts, and procurement of maintenance materials. - Investigating issues related to the structure of the bus, including metallurgy, welds, cracks, corrosion, fasteners, strain gauge testing and Finite Element Analysis. - Investigating issues related to the air system, including the compressor, air dryer, and oil/water separator, air brakes, and suspension. - Performing First Article Inspections on parts and components to ensure compliance with Department of Buses specifications and standards. - Preparing specifications, bulletins, directives, procedures, presentations, cost/benefit analysis, and other reports for department.

Exper. & Educ.: 1. A Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college and either one year of full-time satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering or a Master's degree in mechanical engineering; or 2. A combination of a Bachelor's degree in mechanical technology from an accredited college and a Master's degree in mechanical engineering plus one year of full-time satisfactory experience in the field of mechanical engineering.

Desired Skills: Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and bus components, including hybrid electric vehicles. Background in physical Metallurgy nd/or Industrial Engineering is a plus. Background in automotive, trucking, or aviation industries. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. PC skills including relevant engineering applications; Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint.
