New Ticket Vending Machine Center Opens In Grand Central
Just in time for the busy holiday travel season, Metro-North Railroad has opened a new ticket machine center in Grand Central Terminal, located just under the archway leading to the Lexington Avenue subway.
This new customer service facility is intended to alleviate long lines at ticket windows and in the other ticket vending machine center opposite Track 32 diagonally across the Main Concourse.
The new center houses nine machines, bringing to 28 the total number of ticket vending machines in Grand Central. Other machines are located in various places around the terminal including the Lower Level and the Grand Central North passageways.
In addition, there are now three machines that only sell NYC Transit MetroCards. The machines offer service in English, Spanish, French and German.
The new center is well-lit, climate-controlled and monitored by security cameras. It looks good, too, featuring a black tile floor and large rectangular windows with a bronze grilled, half-moon-shaped transom above.
Since ticket vending machines were introduced in 1988, machine sales have risen to about 60% of all Metro-North tickets purchased.
