Queens Midtown Tunnel Manhattan-bound Tube Closed For Roadway Work Beginning 1 AM, Sun., Nov. 8th Through 5:30 AM Mon., Nov. 9th

Two–Way Traffic Will Run in Remaining Tube

Necessary repair work in the Queens Midtown Tunnel will result in the closure of both lanes of the Manhattan–bound tube of the tunnel from 1 AM on Sunday, Nov. 8th through 5:30 AM on Monday, Nov. 9th. Two–way traffic will be in effect in the remaining tube for cars only during this period.  Motorists should expect delays. Trucks are asked to use either the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge or Brooklyn–Battery Tunnel.

Signs will be in place alerting motorists to the closure. On the Queens side of the tunnel detour signs will direct motorists at 50th Avenue to use the 21st Street entrance ramp instead of the 11th Street entrance ramp, which will be closed. Cars using the Queens–bound tube into Manhattan during two–way traffic operation will exit at East 36th and Second Avenue or East 37th Street. In addition to detour signs, NYPD traffic agents will be on hand to help direct motorists.

"We appreciate the patience of motorists who normally use the Queens Midtown Tunnel while this important work is completed," said Facility Engineer Charles Garber. "Once done, the tunnel will provide a smoother ride for all of our customers."

The work, which is being done by Restani, (dba) Excellent Paving, of Astoria, Queens, includes removing old concrete and replacing it with fast–setting concrete, as well as general pothole repairs, repaving and re–striping lanes inside the tube and on the toll plaza.

The same work will be repeated the following week on Nov. 15th in the Queens–bound  tube of the tunnel. Once again the entire tube will be closed from 1 AM on Sunday through 5:30 AM on Monday while concrete, repaving and re–striping work is completed.

Two–way traffic will be in operation for cars only on Nov. 15th. Motorists should expect delays during this period. Trucks are asked to use either the RFK Bridge or Brooklyn–Battery Tunnel.

Motorists driving from Manhattan to Queens can enter the tunnel at 34th Street between Second and Third avenues or at 35th Street between Second and Third avenues.
Motorists driving into Manhattan will exit normally at 37th Street and Tunnel exit for uptown and downtown traffic and Third Avenue for uptown vehicles. The 34th Street and Second Avenue ramps will be closed to all Queens–bound traffic.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels’ facilities, which connect the five boroughs of New York City, are the Robert F. Kennedy, Throgs Neck, Bronx–Whitestone, Henry Hudson, Verrazano–Narrows, Cross Bay Veterans Memorial and Marine Parkway–Gil Hodges Bridges, and the Queens Midtown and Brooklyn–Battery Tunnels.
