Subways on Saturday Schedule for 4th of July Service Added for Fireworks Displays
MTA New York City Transit subways will operate on a Saturday schedule on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, with additional trains in Manhattan serving customers as they leave the Annual Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular. NYC Transit buses will, however, operate on a Sunday schedule.
Spectators for the fireworks will be congregating at the following designated sites: along the FDR Drive; the Brooklyn Heights Promenade between Joralemon and Cranberry Streets; the Empire Fulton Ferry State Park at Fulton Street; and, on Furman Street from Atlantic Avenue to Old Fulton Street. Roosevelt Island also has a viewing location with a paid admission/advance ticketing policy.
There will be extra subway service in mid- and lower Manhattan from approximately 10 p.m. to midnight on the 3, 5, 7, S (Grand Central Shuttle), A, C, F and L. The N will run local in Brooklyn and Manhattan via the Montague Street tube. NYC Transit encourages people to use mass transit to travel to and from the fireworks show, and to avoid lines by purchasing MetroCards in advance.
The New York City Police Department and Transit personnel will be on hand at high traffic stations to direct customers after the displays end. Customers are reminded to use all cars and not hold subway doors open to prevent unnecessary congestion and delays.
Staten Island Ferry service will be suspended from 8 pm to 10:30 p.m. due to harbor closure. The last boat from either terminal will leave at 7:30 p.m. The next boat will be at 10:30 p.m. from South Ferry-Whitehall and 11:30 p.m. from St. George.
