NYC Transit Offers Marathon Guide
For runners and their fans alike, NYC Transit has produced its first Marathon Subway Guide, which lays out the only practical way to view the ING New York City Marathon throughout the day.
Laid over the city's famous subway map, the colorful 2005 guide highlights seven key locations for runners, along with travel directions via public transit. The locations include the Barilla Plus Marathon Eve Dinner and Fireworks sites, to the start on Staten Island, to the Finish Line Banquet in Central Park and the Family Reunion area. The guide highlights the Official Marathon Buses for contestants.
For fans and family members, the guide points out eight viewing sights, from the five-mile mark in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, to the 25-mile mark, all the way to the Finish Line in Central Park.
"Nothing says New York City more than the NYC Subway and the NYC Marathon," said MTA NYC Transit President Lawrence G. Reuter. "Being there to cheer on the marathoners is a New York City tradition, and you can count on NYC Transit to get you to the best viewing locations along the ING NYC Marathon route safely and on time. What better way is there to follow the drama?"
Mr. Reuter noted that beyond helping spectators, NYC Transit's support of the Marathon will allow spectators to become more actively involved with the race, while also appreciating the benefits of MetroCard and the City's public transit system.
NYC employee volunteers, and the Marathon maps, will be available at a Travel Information booth at the pre-Marathon Health and Fitness Expo on Friday and Saturday, November 4 and 5, at the Jacob Center, 655 West 34th Street. Maps will also be available at subway stations near the five-mile, 12-mile, 15-mile and 24-mile marks on Marathon Sunday. Those stations are:
- 36 Street/4 Avenue (D/M/N/R trains) Mile 5
- Greenpoint Avenue/Manhattan Avenue (G Train) Mile 12
- Queensboro Plaza (N/7 Trains) Mile 15
- 86th Street and Lexington Avenue (4/5/6 Trains) Near Mile 18 on 1st Avenue or Mile 24 in Central Park
