Tax-free Fare Benefit Information
The Federal law that allows a pretax transit benefit of up to $245 per month was re-enacted the week of January 1, 2013. The restored benefit will be retroactive to January 2012, although it has not been determined how transit users will be able to claim back benefits. Customers should contact the workplace administrator of their transit benefit program for assistance in modifying their current pretax and secondary payments. Or, click on the link for your transit benefit program provider below for information about alternate payment options available to you.
NOTICE: As of July 1, the MTA Long Island Rail Road and MTA Metro-North Railroad will no longer accept prepaid vouchers as a form of payment for tickets purchased through Mail&Ride as well as at Ticket Offices.
Many companies serving the NY Metro region offer employer-sponsored tax-free transit fare programs. For more information on how these programs work, click below.
