Special Thanksgiving Holiday Service November 21-25
Our Thanksgiving Holiday service is like a turkey dinner with all your favorite sides: stuffing... cranberries... pie... bacon. (Everything tastes better with bacon!) We couldn’t possibly stuff more trains into the schedule.
On Wednesday, November 21, to help you “take flight” early and get a head start on your holiday, we're piling on the extra getaway trains departing Grand Central. You’ll be able to take flight from the city beginning at 1 PM. (Because of decreased ridership in the evening, some PM trains may be combined or eliminated. See a current timetable for details on early getaway service. Or visit our our schedules page.)
On Thanksgiving Day, November 22,we will operate a holiday schedule with extra AM inbound trains for those of you going to see the Macy’s Parade. (See a Special Thanksgiving Weekend Timetable 11/22-11/25 for details, available in Grand Central AND at outlying stations. Or visit our schedules page.)
After the Parade, hop on one of our many post-parade outbound trains waiting to get you to your holiday festivities. And you won't have to rush your Thanksgiving celebration because we’ve got plenty of evening service to get you home.
On the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 23, (also known as Black Friday), whether you are shopping or working, we will operate a Saturday schedule with extra service in the AM and PM, as well as inbound between 10 AM and 2 PM to accommodate your needs. (See a Special Thanksgiving Weekend Timetable or visit our schedules page.)
The weekend (Saturday, Nov. 24 and Sunday, Nov. 25) sees the return of our Shoppers’ Specials service. On the New Haven Line 18 Shoppers’ Special trains will operate on Saturdays from November 17 thru December 29; on Sundays from November 18 through December 30, we’ll run 13 Shoppers’ Specials. On the Harlem Line, four Shoppers’ Special trains will operate on Sundays from November 18 through December 30. On the Hudson Line, we’ve got three extra trains operating on Saturdays from November 17 through December 29. (See a current timetable or visit our schedules page.)
Off-peak fares will be in effect for the entire four-day holiday period. And you can take advantage of free parking at many of our stations. (Check signs at station lots or call 511 for details. In Connecticut, call 877-690-5114.)
Don’t forget to buy your tickets early.
We suggest a ten-trip, off-peak ticket if you are traveling with family and friends. You’ll save 30%-40% off the one-way, off-peak fare, and the ticket can be used by more than one person, even when traveling together!
The reason we recommend getting your tickets in advance is because on Thanksgiving Day — perhaps the busiest travel day of the year — you must have your train ticket before boarding at Grand Central Terminal or Harlem-125th Street Station.
Have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving Holiday!
