You can use cash, a major credit/debit card, and, when purchasing at the ticket office, personal check and commuter-benefit transit card/voucher. All ticket types are available at our machines. Machines return up to $17.75 in change (coins). Learn more about our Ticket Machines.

Commuter Benefit Programs
Ask your Human Resources Department if your company offers tax-free transit fare programs. You can save hundreds of dollars a year by having a portion of your pre-tax salary set aside for commutation costs.

TICKET TYPES

Peak fares are charged for travel to or from Grand Central Terminal or Harlem-125 Street Station. Peak fares apply to weekday trains that arrive in Grand Central between 5 AM and 10 AM and that depart Grand Central between 4 PM and 8 PM. Peak fares are also charged for any weekday trains that leave Grand Central between 5:30 AM and 9 AM.

Off-peak fares are charged at all other times during weekdays and all day Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Some ticket types feature discounts. These discounts are based on the ticket prices available at the train station. To receive the full value of these discounted tickets, be sure to make your purchases in advance, either at the station or online.

Remember: The fares for all tickets purchased on board the train are always significantly higher
