Edward Hopper House Art Center

The experience

Nestled in the riverfront village of Nyack is one of the Hudson Valley’s treasured historic and artistic gems, the Edward Hopper House Art Center.  The birthplace and boyhood home of America’s foremost realist painter, Edward Hopper (1882-1967), was saved from demolition in 1971 by local residents to become the thriving art center it is today.  In addition to rotating exhibitions of notable contemporary artists, the center features an intimate display of memorabilia and early works that Hopper created during his formative years in Nyack.

Free jazz concerts in the garden featuring world-renowned musicians are a big Thursday evening draw in the summer, and the many year-round workshops and programs--ranging from flower arranging and theatre classes to plays and art workshops—are also popular.

While in Nyack, take a stroll through the town that so inspired young Edward using the "Edward Hopper's Nyack" walking tour map as a guide (available at the center). Edward Hopper House is conveniently located near the quaint shops and acclaimed restaurants of downtown Nyack.
