Main Line Track Work Affects Weekend Train Service This Month
Track modernization work on the Main Line in the Mineola area affects weekend train service on five branches through the end of this month.
Schedule adjustments and some train cancellations will impact the Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay, Ronkonkoma, Far Rockaway and Babylon branches on the weekends of August 13-14, August 20-21 and August 27-28. The work includes the installation of new running rail, resurfacing of tracks and switches and other repairs on theWillis Avenue grade crossing in Mineola. The result will be a smoother ride for customers on trains traveling through the area as well as more reliable service. On all three weekends, the work will get underway on Saturday morning shortly after 12:30 AM and continue through 10 AM on Sunday morning, when regular train service will resume.
Service Impacts
Port Jefferson Branch - Train service to/from Huntington will be provided once every hour, instead of half-hourly and some trains will depart three minutes earlier. Train service to/from Port Jefferson will operate every two hours instead of every 90 minutes.
Oyster Bay Branch - Trains will operate every two hours.
Ronkonkoma Branch - The 12:16 AM train from Penn Station to Ronkonkoma will depart 14 minutes later.
Babylon Branch - Trains departing Penn Station on Saturdays at 7:40 AM, 8:40 AM, 9:40 AM and 11:40 AM will have increased travel times of 8 minutes.
Sunday trains departing Penn Station at 7:40 AM and 8:40 AM will also have increased travel times of 8 minutes.
Far Rockaway Branch - Saturday night/Sunday morning customers who normally take the 12:16 AM train from Penn Station and connect at Jamaica for the Far Rockaway train will need to leave 15 minutes earlier than usual on each impacted weekend. Customers should instead board the 12:01 AM Babylon train at Penn Station and change at Jamaica for the Far Rockaway connection.
