LI Summer Fun with LIRR Getaways
Montauk Lighthouse GetawayThe LIRR has four upcoming LI Getaways guaranteed to add some zing to your summer fun. Saturday, July 23, there’s the ever popular Montauk Lighthouse Getaway. Visit the "ultimate" seaside resort community at the tip of Long Island: Montauk. During your day on the East End, you’ll visit three distinct areas: Montauk Village, the Lighthouse, and Gosman’s Dock. On Sunday, July 31, why not take the Sunday Brunch Cruise Getaway. You’ll board the Lauren Kristy at the Bay Shore Marina for a beautiful cruise on the Great South Bay, with great views of Fire Island and the South Shore of Long Island. A tasty buffet brunch will be served as we sail toward our destination of West Sayville. Take a trip with us to the North Fork on Saturday, August 6, for the Long Island Wine Country Flight #2 Getaway. There are four wine country getaways this year to provide customers with a greater sampling of Long Island wine and spirits. On this "flight" we visit Pindar and Duck Walk Vineyards where several varieties of wine can be sampled at each location. Once we arrive in Greenport you will have the opportunity for beer tasting at Greenport Harbor Brewing Company. On Saturday, August 13, there's the Orchard Harvest Getaway. Stops include a hayride and guided tour of a pick-your-own fruit farm and a visit to a vegetable farm where fresh bounties of the earth are available to bring back home. The seaport Village of Greenport is the final stop. There are also additional escorted and non-escorted getaways available, including Bethpage Golf, Polo & Tennis, Nautical Mile and our LI Beach packages. For more information pick up the Long Island Getaways brochure at stations and terminals or call 718-217-5477.

Montauk Branch East End Train Service Affected August 2-4
Some train service will be replaced with buses between Speonk and Montauk, both eastbound and westbound, August 2 through August 4. The service change is necessary in order to replace theHill Station Road Bridge in Hampton Bays, which was damaged after being hit by a truck. Affected customers should expect additional travel time. A special East of Speonk timetable, effective August 2-4, will be available at stations and all LIRR terminals. Please pick up a copy or consult the LIRR website at for further service details.

And The Winners Are….
The LIRR held a Summer Kickoff event at Penn Station to get what many consider the best time of the year off to a rollicking start. The event was sponsored by OPUS Casino and included a reggae-calypso style band and giveaways as well as a raffle. Prizes included tickets to some of the LIRR’s New York City and Long Island Getaways, such as "Hair,' "Zarkana," "Blue Man Group," and more. Two of the winners enjoyed tickets to the Broadway hit, "Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark." Edie Lang and Sally Ann Rizzuto, both, coincidentally, from West Hempstead, show off their prize ducats.

Some Ticket Window Hour Changes in Effect July 20
Labor Agreement Helps Retain Ticket Offices

As of July 20 ticket office hours at seven LIRR stations will be revised as follows:

Station Open (Effective July 20) Hours
Amityville Mondays & Thursdays only 6:10 AM-1:45 PM
Bayside Monday-Friday only 6:10 AM-1:45 PM
Flushing-Main Street Mondays & Fridays only 6:15 AM-1:55 PM
Long Beach Monday-Friday
Saturday & Sunday
6:10 AM-1:45 PM
10 AM-6 PM
Lynbrook Mondays & Thursdays only 5:45 AM-1:45 PM
Massapequa Mondays & Wednesdays only 6:10 AM-1:45 PM
Wantagh Mondays & Wednesdays only 6:10 AM-1:45 PM

Ticket office hours will change or be reduced at seven LIRR stations as part of an effort to prevent some ticket windows from closing and to retain the current level of cleaning services. LIRR management and leaders of the LIRR’s Transportation Communications Union agreed to temporary changes in contract rules, providing savings sufficient to avert the planned layoff of 17 ticket clerks, closure of ticket offices and a reduction of ticket window hours at over 18 stations. The LIRR hopes to discuss extension of this temporary nine-month agreement to avoid shutting ticket windows and laying off employees in 2012. The revised ticket office hours at seven LIRR stations take effect July 20, as shown in the above chart.
