Hamptons Coach Service (Off-season)
Though the Hamptons are bustling during the summer season, the South Fork of Long Island can be an enjoyable and even more relaxing place off-season without the crowds. Visit the wineries at harvest time, check out the foliage, go pumpkin picking, buy fresh produce at local farmstands, stroll the beaches, shop in the quaint villages or eat at the fabulous restaurants you couldn't get into this summer. Below are some tips on taking the train:
Montauk Branch Service
Service to the Hamptons is available on our Montauk
branch. Train schedules by station or branch are available on line, customized
for your travel needs at Schedules & Fares or All
Train Schedules. Printed branch timetables, and convenient pocket-sized
schedules for your particular station are available at Penn, Jamaica, Flatbush
or Hamptons stations.
Buy Before Boarding - Save Money
The one-way fare to the Hamptons is $15.25 off-peak
and $21.00 for peak trains from New York City. We recommend that customers
buy tickets before boarding, since the on-board fare is $20.00 for off-peak
and $25.00 for peak travel.
Off-Peak Ten Trip Tickets
You can save 15% percent off the regular price of 10 individual off-peak one-way
fares by purchasing our Off-Peak Ten Trip ticket. You'll save time too, by
avoiding ticket lines each time you travel (and avoid that higher on-board
fare). This ticket is good for one year and is also transferable, so you
can share it with friends.
Ticket Sales
Please be sure to purchase your rail ticket before boarding, since
the on-board fare is higher. Our ticket offices now accept credit and debit
cards (please allow extra time). In addition to our ticket offices, we
offer:
Ticket Machines
Look for our easy to use touch-screen ticket machines to purchase your one-way
roundtrip or 10-trip tickets. The ticket machines accept cash, credit and
debit cards, and can be found at our terminal stations, as well as Westhampton,
Southampton and East Hampton.
Web Tickets
Now you can purchase rail WebTickets through our website. Save up to 5% on your
one-way, roundtrip or 10-trip ticket. The discount is off the ticket office/machine
price. Free postage - tickets arrive in 3-5 business days by mail.
Station Service
Hunterspoint
Avenue Station
Just a short hop from Grand Central Terminal on the number 7 subway, many of
our Montauk trains depart from Hunterspoint Avenue. This is a convenient choice
for customers traveling from the east side. A full-service ticket machine (gray)
and a daily ticket machine (red) are available close to the ticket office
(Cash, Credit or ATM-Debit cards accepted). The ticket office is closed during
the off-season.
Penn
Station
Open 24/7, the terminal has numerous ticket machines located throughout the LIRR
concourse and the ticket office is always open. Check the station destination
boards or monitors for track assignments.
Jamaica
Station
Montauk trains normally platform on tracks 5 or 8, however, listen for announcements
of track changes while we undergo the complete renovation of our Jamaica station.
A monitor is available at the ticket office and outside on Sutphin Boulevard
by the platform staircases. There is an information booth on the platform between tracks 7 and 8.
East End Stations
Below is a list of the ticket facilities available at our Hamptons stations.
Check the individual station links for other information such as driving
directions, taxi numbers, etc. If you're heading out to Sag Harbor, use our

The Cannonball
Our Premier, Express TrainServing eastward travelers for over 100 years, the Cannonball (leaving Hunterspoint Ave at 4:06 PM, Penn connection at 3:58 PM) is by far our most popular train. After allowing Penn customers to hop on board at Jamaica, this train speeds out to the Hamptons (first stop Westhampton) in time for you to make Happy Hour. During the off-season this express train runs every Friday, and the Wednesday before Thanksgiving; no Hamptons Reserve service is available.
Boarding the Cannonball
If you would like to be the first off the train and on your way in the Hamptons,
please walk forward at Hunterspoint and board one of the first cars.
For customers taking the connecting train at Penn for Jamaica, we recommend
that customers board the middle of the connecting train for a smooth transition
to a seat on the Cannonball at Jamaica.
On-Board the Train
Restrooms
To identify the location of a restroom on your train please locate the four-digit
car number prominently displayed inside and outside of the car. All restrooms
can be found on cars with odd numbers (for example, 4061).
Luggage
Our bi-level cars offer a luggage alcove at the end of each car as well as
space under your seats and in overhead luggage racks. As a courtesy to your
fellow customers, please do not put your luggage (or your feet) on the seats.
Bicycles
Please consult printed public timetables for specific bike train restrictions. Also, see LIRR Bicycle Permit Regulations.
Pets
Small pets are allowed on the trains, but they must be confined in closed,
ventilated containers. Guide dogs for sight-impaired riders are permitted
on all trains.
Cell Phone Courtesy
As a courtesy to our other customers, we kindly ask that when using cell phones
you "Talk
so low so no one will know". Keep your conversations short or move to
the vestibule area for more privacy.
