Fulton Street Transit Center Project

Private Property Impacts and Information

MTA’s development of the Fulton Street Transit Center, a project that will benefit the public as a whole, will require the purchase of specific private property within the project area. The property requirements of the project are listed in Chapter 10 of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement.

A Public Hearing under Article 2 of the New York State Eminent Domain Procedure Law was held on December 16, 2004. Click here to view a copy of the Public Hearing presentation.

Some of the properties needed for the project identified in the DEIS will require the current occupants to move so that the buildings may be removed. The addresses of these properties are:

In addition, the Corbin Building at 192 Broadway may also be purchased for the project and its occupants displaced, but the building will not be removed .

The purchase of private property is primarily governed by the federal “Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970," (Uniform Act) because a federal grant will pay for the construction of the Fulton Street Transit Center. The Uniform Act provides important protections and assistance for people affected by Federally funded projects. This law was enacted by Congress to ensure that people whose real property is acquired, or who move as a result of projects receiving Federal funds, will be treated fairly and equitably and will receive assistance in moving from the property they occupy.
