How E-ZPass On-the-Go works:

MTA Bridges and Tunnels now offers E-ZPass^® On-the-Go, a pre-paid E-ZPass^® tag designed to make it really easy for our cash paying customers to try this electronic device that saves time, money, and gas. It is the new innovative way to obtain an E-ZPass^® account allowing the busy traveler to open an E-ZPas^®s account without filling out an application or waiting on line

• Purchase - The cost of each tag is $30. You may purchase a tag at any of the participating retailers listed here. The holder of the pre–paid tag can use up to $20 to pay tolls immediately; $10 is a deposit on the tag.

• Use - You may use this tag at any of the MTA Bridges and Tunnels facility, New York City Area Facilities as well as any of the participating 25 agencies in 14 states.

• Register - Once the tag has been used for the first time, the customer has two days (48 hours) to register the tag by going to the website www.ezpassny.com or calling a toll free number on the tag.

If the tag is registered to an account that is replenished by a credit card, then the $10 deposit also becomes available for toll use. If the tag is registered to an account that is replenished by check or cash, then $10 remains as a deposit for the tag.
